Diving in Darwin is everything diving should be: fun, exciting, interesting, with warm water and in a happy, casual atmosphere! CORAL DIVERS is Darwin's best, friendliest dive store and we are here to make sure you enjoy your Darwin Diving experience. We have been diving Darwin for more than 20 years. Our Instructors have over 50 years experience between them and know the harbour like an old friend. Our staff are all highly qualified and experienced, but most of all they love the ocean and in particular Darwin's underwater world. We are just waiting to help you enjoy it too!
Each dive is skippered by a qualified Coxswain/Divemaster and there is always an experienced Instructor on hand to assist you if necessary.
Darwin diving is unique. As the majority of our dives are done within the confines of Darwin Harbour, we are only minutes away from any dive site.
Our shallow coastal reef system is great for those long, lazy dives. Our soft corals and sponges are prolific as the lower visibility and strong tidal flows provide them with perfect conditions. Expect to see large Gorgonians, soft coral trees, harp corals, vase sponges and ascidians galore! Not to mention the huge number of different Nudibranchs.
What could be more relaxing than heading out for a night dive with a sunset like this? Night dives are popular with the locals, and why not? The nights are balmy, the water, warm, and the sea is usually mirror smooth.
As well as the usual "sleepy" fish, and very active Slate Pencil Urchins, octopus are not infrequent on our night dives. The phosphorescence in the water is quite spectacular most nights and is often enough to see by without your torch!
The main factor which governs our diving is the huge tidal flows in the harbour. This means that we have to schedule our dives on the "Neap" tides which occur for approximately 4 - 5 days every two weeks. Because of the strong tidal currents which occur on our "non-diving" weeks, the visibility in the harbour can vary from 1 - 4 mtrs in the "Wet" season (November - April), up to 5 - 15 mtrs in the "Dry" (May through to October).
Our dive sites are many and varied. Darwin is lucky to have some great wreck diving so close to home. We have the choice of Australian and American World War II ships wrecked in the February 19, 1942 bombing raid by the Japanese, as well as wrecks from the infamous Cyclone Tracy which devastated Darwin on Christmas eve, 1974.
There are also a number of artificial reefs, put down for the express purpose of attracting fish to the harbour, for the use of all divers and fishermen.
As
